What is Uppercase Converter?

Uppercase conversion replaces every lowercase letter with its capital form. This tool goes beyond ALL CAPS: you can capitalize only the first letter of the text, of each line, of each sentence or of each word, and leave every other character exactly as you typed it. That is handy for fixing a list that starts in lowercase or headlines that lost their initial capital.

Capitalization depends on the language. In Turkish and Azerbaijani the dotted i becomes İ and the dotless ı becomes I, which the standard rule gets wrong. German ß normally becomes SS in capitals (STRASSE); you can choose the capital sharp s ẞ instead. URLs, e-mail addresses and `code` spans can be protected, since https://example.com/Docs and the address sales@example.com should not be shouted.

How does it work?

  1. Paste or type your text in the input box.
  2. Choose what to capitalize: everything, the first letter of each sentence, line or word, or only the first letter of the text.
  3. Pick Turkish rules if the text is Turkish or Azerbaijani, and decide how ß is written.

Limitations

Sentence detection is punctuation-based: an abbreviation such as "e.g." followed by a space is treated as a sentence end. Scripts without letter case, like Arabic, Chinese or Hebrew, are unchanged.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the Turkish option matter?

In Turkish "i" and "ı" are two different letters with capitals İ and I. With the standard rule "istanbul" becomes ISTANBUL instead of İSTANBUL, which changes the meaning of some words.

How is ß converted to capitals?

The Unicode standard turns ß into SS, so straße becomes STRASSE. You can pick the capital sharp s ẞ (STRAẞE) that German orthography has allowed since 2017.

Does "first letter of each sentence" lowercase the rest?

No. The partial modes only change the letters they target. To also lowercase the remaining letters, use the Lowercase Converter or the sentence-case style of the Case Converter.
